JUAQUINA
This two-foot-tall ceramic sculpture is a pinch-built, is a study of an exaggerated human body that emerged from a period of intense transition and self-discovery. The swollen torso, curved hips, and oversized feet reflect a grotesque, playful approach to the body while expressing my desire to feel firmly grounded.
After years without a fixed physical home, I began searching for an internal one. The large feet act as roots, suggesting that stability can be carried within the body wherever I go. A light bulb at the top replaces the head, symbolizing clarity and awareness that emerge when one is centered. Together, the heavy base and illuminated top represent my journey toward building a secure inner home and allowing that groundedness to guide my next steps.
